Work assignments

Research, development and creative activities

  • Participation in the research, development and creative activities under the supervision of a professor or associate professor. Processing and analysis of health data using Estonian Biobank datasets (questionnaire data and data from national databases and registries). Genomic data analysis in psychiatric genomics (polygenic risk scores, genome-wide association studies, genetic correlations, Mendelian randomization, and other statistical genomics methods). Contributing to collaborative projects within international consortia (e.g., the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, EU Horizon projects). Presenting research findings at international conferences and writing scientific articles.
  • International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least 1.5 doctoral theses in five years.
  • Development of skills necessary for research, development and creative activities, and professional development.

Teaching and activities related to the administration and development of teaching

  • Teaching, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, primarily supervising students of the first and second level of higher education.
  • Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.

Participation in the governance and institutional development of the university

  • Participation in the work of the university’s decision-making bodies is recommended.
  • Popularising their specialisation.

Education

PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Work experience

  • Ability to participate in the research, development and creative activities of the specialisation.
  • International-level research in the specialisation, the volume of which so far is equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis.
  • Health data analysis (e.g., health registries, health questionnaires – especially in the field of mental health).
  • Genomic data analysis (e.g., genome-wide association studies, polygenic scores).
  • Proficiency in statistical methods.
  • Basic programming skills (e.g., UNIX/Linux, Python, R).
  • Experience leading/managing a research project.
  • Excellent scientific writing skills.

Language skills

Very good English skills: ability to write scientific papers and grant applications, deliver presentations, and liaise with international partners. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to learn Estonian.

If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position.
